The Saint John Rapids female team delivered a perfect weekend on the floor this past weekend

May. 25, 2026

The Saint John Rapids female team delivered a perfect weekend on the floor, earning back-to-
back victories and improving their ECJLL record to 2-2 on the season. Powered by explosive
offence, strong defensive play, and outstanding goaltending, the Rapids showed resilience and
confidence in a pair of impressive performances against the Halifax Hurricanes and Dartmouth
Bandits.

The weekend opened Saturday with a thrilling battle against the Halifax Hurricanes. In a fast-
paced and physical contest, the Rapids came through with a hard-earned victory winning 7-1,
thanks to balanced scoring and timely saves in key moments. The win marked one of the team’s
strongest all-around performances of the young season and gave the group valuable momentum
heading into Sunday’s matchup.

Raine Gilmore played a major role offensively, consistently creating pressure and capitalizing on
scoring opportunities throughout the game. Grace Cudmore continued her strong start to the
season with another key offensive performance. Contributions came from throughout the lineup
as Saint John matched Halifax’s intensity from the opening whistle and refused to back down
during momentum swings.

Goaltender Lila Scaplen was outstanding between the pipes, making several crucial saves during
key stretches to help preserve the Rapids lead. Halifax generated plenty of offensive pressure,
but Scaplen remained calm and gave the Rapids confidence throughout the contest with her
steady play and composure under pressure. The defensive unit in front of her also stepped up,

limiting second-chance opportunities and forcing turnovers that quickly turned into transition
offence.  Less than 24 hours later, the Rapids returned to the floor Sunday against the Dartmouth Bandits
and delivered their most dominant performance of the season.

Saint John controlled the game from start to finish on the way to an emphatic 8-1 victory. The
Rapids overwhelmed Dartmouth with relentless pressure, quick ball movement, and a balanced
offensive attack that kept the Bandits pinned in their own end for much of the afternoon.
Grace Cudmore helped spark the offence early, while Saint John built momentum in the opening
period. Sydney Mills was excellent in transition and contributed multiple assists, helping fuel the
Rapids attack as the lead steadily grew throughout the game. The offence continued rolling over
all three periods, with contributions coming from across the lineup as the Rapids generated 49
shots and maintained control of possession for most of the contest.

The defensive effort was equally impressive. Goaltender Kat Garland was near-perfect in net,
stopping every shot she faced but one, to earn the victory in spectacular fashion. Garland showed
poise, controlling rebounds and making several strong saves whenever Dartmouth attempted to
generate momentum. The defensive group in front of her delivered one of its best performances
of the season, disrupting passing lanes, forcing turnovers, and preventing quality scoring
opportunities throughout all three periods.

The weekend sweep was an important step forward for the Rapids as they evened their record at
2-2 and continued building confidence as a group. The team showed the ability to win — battling
against a competitive Halifax team before completely dominating Dartmouth less than a day
later.

With offensive chemistry improving, strong performances in goal, and contributions coming
from throughout the roster, the Rapids female team is beginning to hit its stride. If this weekend
was any indication, Saint John is quickly becoming a team capable of competing with anyone in
the ECJLL this season.
